Hey guys Ive found a jeep Wagooner locally for pretty cheap, I am thinking of getting it and using it for parts for my cj5, It has a 360 that needs the timing set ( I havent confirmed that is all that is wrong with it). I was also thinking i could use it for power steering and brakes? Does this sounds like a solid plan? The owner is asking $500

Mmm. What year is your CJ? It would make a good donor for an engine and power steering parts. Probably you could adapt the power brakes booster, but I don't think these parts are any better than something from the junkyard, just becasue they are from a Wagoneer.

Really, a broken partster Wagoneer is not worth much money. $500 seems like a lot. Be careful ... many of these have high miles and low oil pressure, and are a burned rod waiting to happen. Sometimes the oil pump can be rebult and give you more pressure ... sometimes the cam bearings are so worn that they must be replaced to restore oil pressure. $500 is a lot for a 360 core engine.

also worth noting that once you have the motor and steering gear out of it, the only real desirable part left is the axles, and on a 84 and 85 they have the vacuum disconnect front and amc20 rear which even though the 20 is a decent axle it is not a highly desirably set of drivetrain.

Just noticed the year of the wag, wait till you find one with d44's.

I'm using a 78 and 89 wagoneer as the donor for my 73' CJ6. Power steering, pump and steering column, the front axle from the 78 and the rear from the 89. Front leaf springs from both.
I got both for 200, sold the front axle out of the 89' for 350 and made a nice profit!:) Those 44 driver drops cost an arm and a leg here. I used a lot of parts from the waggys to get my 6 to where I'm happy with it.

The Corporate axle (M23?) in the Wagoneer is a good axle - much better than the Corporate 20 in the CJ. The M23 has one-piece axles and heavier tubes than the M20. The axles are welded on the back side - so they look like 2-piece, but they are not. The M23 is arguably a better axle than the D44, with a larger ring gear...

The Wagoneer axle ratios are terrible though - from 3.31, 3.07 or 2.73. No great crawler gears.
