D60 hubs/spindles on D44 rear axle?

    This is probably just another brain fart. Since I am building a new, narrowed front 44 axle for the 3B and would like to put ARB's on both ends, I have decided to replace the rear axle also (currently 19 spline full float conversion which will find a new home in the 69 CJ5). I am not sure I like Herm's 27x30 spline necked down axles and I also need a couple more inches width to match the front where it was necessary to keep tires off the frame, so was thinking of using the D60 spindles (Dodge or GM 6 bolt), 5x5.5 D60 hubs, D53 tubes, Ford high pinion 44 center, and shortened/resplined D60 rear axles. It will require a pair of machined adapters to fit the D60 spindles, something I can do myself. Anyone have experience with this type of conversion? And yes, I know swapping a complete narrowed D60 would seem to be easier and cheaper, but at that point, I would need a frame stretch (rear drive shaft is too short now) and would no longer have room for my 25 gallon fuel tank which has worked very well, not to mention the extra weight and loss of ground clearence.

    It is very doable . just keep in mind that everything has to be in line with the carrier if your starting with a bear tubes and housing you will need some alignment plates and drill rod . Also remember a reverse cut 44 in a rear is weaker than a standerad rotation . There is alot of debate but most will a agree its some were around 25% weaker should have used the R44 up front were it is 25% stronger. what size tire are running that will determine the best option on witch carrier to use.
