1967 cj5 10" brakes. i have put all new wheel cylinders, lines, went through master cyl(it seemed ok. ) and bled, bled bled, even used apower bleeder. only momentary brakes. then nothing. as i pump the pedal it will grab momentarily. i assume the mc is bad but, dual resivoir: w/10" brakes is not available. and i cannot find the correct rebuild kit. the mc is exactly like the one in the serv manual so i know its right. but the rebuild kit is not the same. what can i do? with out major changes. any help please...............where do i find one? even looked for a used one. to no avail. help!!

I was in the same position you were in. I have a '69 with a dual reservoir. I took mine to ABS power brake:

    http://www.abspowerbrake.com/

    They rebuilt mine for $75.

ok, Herm makes a bolt in kit for that is a dual MC. Nice kit and good instructions, I run it.
One point you may want to think about, that jeep is 43 years old, getting under there and replacing all the flexible lines in the brake may be a good idea.

X2:coffee: the flexible lines have a tendency to collapse with age from the inside cavity:shock: not readily detectable from inspecting while on vehicle.

also, did you bench bleed your MC prior to install?

yes i bench bled it. its my understanding on the repl bolt in kit that that is a replacement for 9" brakes w/single resivoir. mine already has a stock dual res with 10" brakes. i sent herm an email last thurs and asked if the kit he has will work as mine stock has a bracket that looks like the refit kit's. i have put 2 of three flex lines on it as a result of replacing brake lines.

Your local auto parts store should have or at least list a reman. master cylinder for that.

strange..... rockauto's site doesnt list a dual resivor, I tried searching 1967,1968,1969,1970 cj5. searched advance auto and came up with cardone 10-1292. picture shows it to be a dual resivor, and in stock. $19.99 $5.00 core

i ck'd at advance and they had no listing for 67 W10" brakes. it has a single bolt lid hold down not like the newer versions just wonder if any other will fit. talked to 4wd hardware and they told me that wagner (who remaned them for everone else had a problem and stopped making them. wonder if the conversion for the 9" dual resivoir will fit the same mounting holes and connect the same as mine. i cant believe i am the only one to expierence this.
this is what mine looks like, its next to the 78-86 part number but they just put a pick in the page.notice they do not have a listing for mine. http://collinsbros.stores.yahoo.net/newbrakmascy.html

All the remans or new MC from the FLAPS will NOT have the single bolt lid despite what the pics show on their sites. I tried 3 different places, all the same MC. They work fine but you will have to do a Mod to get the push rod to install correctly. GRANNYSCJ expains it in the third post of this link http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30312&highlight=dual+res+mastercylinder . I did the same and it works fine.

yes i saw the rambler comment. have no idea what a rambler used. I looked it up for a 1970 cj5 and it said it would fit. my 1970 had 10 inch drums up front, can not recall what was in the rear. it should fit a 1967. I saved all the MC parts related to the dual unit and plan on putting it on my 1955 a1 and see no reason it shouldnt work as the frame is almost identical. unless they had a design change in the MC mount from 67-70:rofl:

i looked up for 69 and they had no match. there must be something different. and the push rod piece is different. mine attaches to the mc. that would nee some kind of way to attace. i got mine out and the rebuild kit i was sent is different as you can see from the pics the brass colored portion of the piston is a smaller bore size than the rear part of the piston(2 pc) wish i could find the right rebuild kit and be done w/this.
well i dont know how to post a pic.cant figure out how to on this forum. so i can email pics if anyone is interested. thanks for your help

well after talking to several classic parts and restorers people all over the country. i talked to abs in california and said he did not have a kit for it but if i sent him my mc he would make up a straight bore 7/8" to bolt back on my cj w/no mods needed for $125. but i thought if for some reason it didnt work then i have lost my original core and i'm sure it would not be found. mine is a step bore 1"-7/8" dual resivoir which he said is rare. so i spoke to white post restorations in virginia and he said he can bore and resleeve w/stainless sleeves to original specs w/a lifetime warr, and that he has kits made in england for those mc's ,he did 2 last week. he said he does 4-5 a month. it's not cheap ($290.00) but he sounded like this is old hat w/a 2 day turn around and i know it will bolt up w/no probs since it is my original. so off it goes to virginia. i'll let you know the results. thanks for your help. i'm not one to do mods if i dont have to.this seemed the easiest way.8)

got my master cylinder back from white post restorations and installed. looks like brand new and works like new w/ a lifetime warranty ! now the only prob i have is it pulls left bad when braking. i had all the brakes adjusted and bled the system several times but still pulls hard left. the right front wheel cylinder is the only one i did not replace(thought it was the only brake working when i got this jeep) and did not look at operation with that drum off. i suppose i will have to change that one. also to my surprise the mc was marked on the front resivior "front brake" on the front res. i had read an earlier post about a guy who ran into this when he replaced one. mine was plumbed backwards so i corrected that as well. some one in the past must have had this apart and thought like i did and most, that the rear res is always front brakes but obviously on a step bore its the other way. wow! couldnt read it w/all the rust on it.

Cardone 10-1292 is the one you want. I have one on the bench waiting to go into the flatty to repalce the leaking one in there now, it works just fine with 9" stock drums in the rear and discs up front. It even has the port in the bottom for the brake light switch!
