Does anyone know what year CJ's this tach was correct for?

I'm wondering what type of ignition system was used that year.

You got a box for that tach, with a PN?

I'd guess ca '76-77. Prestolite era, but should trigger from the coil primary pulse like other tachs - no special requirements. Both the Prestolite and Duraspark just turn the coil on and off, like a points ignition.

No box or parts tag so no part number.

It does have the AMC Logo on face.... and Faria made it.

Wiring looks similar to in dash CJ tach's?

I know 81-86 CJ's and FSJ's pretty well and have never seen tach before I found it in stash.

Oh, scratch my previous post. I'll have to check my parts book, but it may be the optional tach for the last of the bus-wheel CJs, say '74-75. The column with the bus wheel is a skinny plain black steel tube. Can you get a better shot of the mounting bracket?

The clamp bracket pictured looks to fit 1 1/2" column.

Cool tach! Does it have a selector for use on either a 6 or 8?

there is no part number, so guess I'll have to hook it up to 6 cyl CJ-7 or 360 J20 and see which one it works for.

    Hope it's a V-8 !

Before you hook it up, how many wires coming out of the back? Is it for series installation or conventional hook up.

    John,

Think I recognize you from a write-up that I think you wrote on CJ dash guage diagnosis?

Glad to have your mechanical knowledge tuned in to this rare tach.

This CJ column mounted tach is similar in wiring to a CJ dash tach.

Red & Red with white tracers....the connectors also look the same as dash tach.

I would think: one would go to ignition feed and other to coil.

Orange & Black for the illumination light (that is easy + and - )

I also understand that Thomas Fariara made a very similar column tach for AMC cars, but no logo.

Yes, I thought those connectors looked the same. In that case you would hook the tach up in series.

There should be a connector Just off the ignition switch that you hook the tach up to.
THis is for a column mounted switch:

All you have to do is separate those two connectors and plug in the tach connections.

All that needs to be determined is if it's a 6 or an 8 cyl. tach. It might say something inside.

My 74-75 Schematic looks like there should be a similar connection on the dash mounted switch also.
