    Hello all.

While adjusting my drum brakes today I noticed that in the front right brake backing plate i have 2 adjusting holes ! all the rest have one hole.
I belive its too much :)
Is it a common or a rare plate? What is the reason for those 2 holes?

    here is a picture

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

some plates come with 2 holes covered by knock-outs
you knockout depending on left or right application
rubber plugs for that application fill the holes

    nickmil In mothballs.

In front applications or those with no park brake mechanism it allows the backing plate to be used on either the right side or left side of the vehicle. Just get an extra plug to fill the hole to keep mud, water, etc. from getting in.

The opening allows you to insert a brake tool into the brake system to turn the star adjustment wheel while the drums are on the axle. The tool looks like a large bent screwdriver and is inserted from the back side.
