checking to see if anyone here has any suggestions for a super quiet muffler for my 71jeepster commando. I am running advace adapter headers (fenderwell)
.I have the 225 oddfire. I tried the search function and came up with nothing yet. I also tried a Magnaflow muffler and also some Flowtech mufflers that are like a flowmaster. The Magnaflow was a pretty straight flow. and the flowtech bent around like a 2 or 3 chamber muffler. It also felt like it has some packing in it. All mufflers were 2 1/4 inch. The collector on the header is 2 1/2. I ran a collector reducer to 2 1/4. Interior resonance was loud at idle. I already have a sound deading material /heatshield matting under my carpet too.
I want to exit the tail pipe in front of the rear tires.
Any suggestions on a super quiet muffler?
I was thinking maybe some sort of stock muffler. That way it might restrict the exhaust a little which might help on the backpressure.

When I was looking for a quiet muffler for my V6, I went to a local (not national franchised) muffler shop and just told them I wanted the absolute quietest muffler they had and they took it from there. This was like 10 yrs. ago so I don't remember what they put on but it was much quieter than the stuff that was on there. Hope that helps.

Measure the inlet/outlets you need, as well as dimensional measurements, go to the FLAPS and find one for a big luxury car (Crown Vic, Cadillac, etc) that matches up. Those land-yacht mufflers really work well.

Check out Supertrapp spark arrestor mufflers. They clamp on to the end of your tailpipe, they look good, and you can tune your sound and backpressure by removing or adding disks. You can find them at the popular speed shops on the web. They cost just over $50 per tailpipe. I hope that helps.

Any reason you don't want it to exit behind the rear tires? I am sure that will help quiet it down a lot. That way you aren't sitting 2 feet from the exhaust exit and all that sound. Mine exits out the rear corner and it's pretty quiet.

I had thrush turbos on my fenderwell headers and running a couple of feet of pipe out the back made all the difference in the world (1.75 pipe, along the frame, then a 90 degree turn and sticking out the rear corner). You could hear it, but the wind noise would drown it out over 50 (bikini top)

You can see them poking out the rear corners.....

Check at your local junkyard for a late-nineties Caddy with the Northstar. They have two mufflers located under the trunk in the rear. You only need one. They are very wide, but very flat and should fit inside the rockers. Probably the quietest muffler you'll find.
