Tech question ... since by vin number my cj5 1964 was mfg in Feb. of 1964, and since Kaiser dropped the name Willys in 1965, is my jeep a Willys/Kaiser Jeep?

    From 1945 through 1985 I divide the CJ's into 4 ERA's.

This division is relative to ownership of the various CJ manufacturers.
    # 1 Willys Overland Incorporated ............roughly 1945 through 1953
    # 2 Willys Motors Incorporated............... roughly 1954 through 1964
    # 3 Kaiser Jeep Corporation ...................roughly 1965 through 1969
    # 4 Americam Motors Jeep Corporation.....roughly 1970 through 1985

Since your CJ was at the cusp of name change over you will need to look at your serial number plate.
This will identify the correct era for your Jeep.
The state issued title dating has no real bearing on the date of manufacture.

If your 1964 CJ-5 has the SERIAL NUMBER PLATE prefix of 57548 then you CJ is a WILLYS.
If your 1964 CJ-5 has the subsequent SERIAL NUMBER PLATE prefix of 8305 then you CJ is a KAISER.

The VIN tag on the firewall also changed. '64 and prior had a script "Willys" stamped across the top.

Nope, it's an 8305. I think it's a '64. At any rate the tag says "Willys produced by Kaiser Jeep Corporation" to be more exact. It's like a trim tag sorta tag, not a SN tag that's screwed on.

My understanding is that if the vehicle was MANUFACTURED in 1962 or earlier it is a Willys. Kaiser supposedly stopped using the Willys name after 1962. The reason for the emphasis on MANUFACTURED is from around 1961 thru(spelling?) 1964. Many of these vehicle where titled using the year of the sale not the year of manufacture.
Here is a link some may find useful:

This should help with the Kaiser questions:

See my post above about the tag on my firewall. Apparently Kaiser did still use the Willys name. ;)

SN tag just says "Jeep" on the top rather than Willys. I've never seen another tag like the one I'm referring too.

I'll have to get a decent photo of it. The one I have is blurry.

I found the same tag today on the passenger side firewall that says it is a Willys produced by Kaiser. Soooo ... I guess there is nothing wrong with referring to it as a Willys!

The vin. # plate on my 1964 CJ-5 is on the drivers side. It is a 8305 and the plate is stamped JEEP on top then the number then Kaiser Jeep Corp.
