dana 18 speedo gear ?

Did the dana 18 use a washer/shim on one or both sides of the speedo gear? After pulling the rear bearing cap/speedo housing to fix leaks I have a flat washer about the speedometer gear size left out? Didnt see it until I was done. Parts break down I have dosn't show one but it looks like the dana 20 t-cases do to the right of speedo gear

Dana 18 didn't use a washer or shim directly against the speedo drive gear. The gear butts up against the inside race of the rear bearing then the yoke goes directly against the speedo drive gear.

The 20 uses shims between the gear and outer bearing on the rear output to set bearing clearance/preload but it's a different animal.

 

would their be any where else this washer could have came from? 1 1/2 o.d. and 1 3/16 I.D. 1/16 thick. This is the only thing I can think of since the first time I left the speedo gear out when I started putting back together maybe off the front yoke output?

 

I'd have to measure one but from your description it sounds like the washer that goes between the yoke and the retaining nut. If it only fits over the threaded portion of the shaft and not over the splines then most likely what it is.
