Never heard of that. You can convert an even fire V6 HEI for odd fire.

Seems to me that since an odd fire is a v8 with the front 2 cylinders cut off you could use the v8 HEI and just run the two extra spark plug wires to dumby plugs.

It seems like I've seen this somewhere. Two spark plugs screwed into and aluminum block with the plug wires attached.

Early 70's Buick 231 O.F. had HEI I pulled one from a 74 Apollo. But, haven't tried installing yet. I was told they are interchangable though.

They are - you do have to watch the advance curve as it is different between the 225 and 231 - search for Vac Advance on HEI.

As to a V8 cap on a V6 - no way possible - the degrees needed for ignition precludes 'space' for an additional couple cyls. Plugs must fire when they are supposed to in the degree arc or the fuel is not detonated properly.

A V8 cap on a V6 is a good way to bend rods or do other perminante damage to the engine.

I either had the same dream, or read the same article. If memory serves, they were saying the distributor base is the same. The difference was just the cap

In regards to Warloc's mention of difference in advance curve,i recently found a very good article by a tuner from the corvette club. "google distributor vacuum advance" and look for "corvette club.org.also follows with extensive specs on many GM point type as well as hei dist. vacuum controls.

The cap is different but also the the shaft is different. The reluctor wheel inside the distributor has 8 points for the V-8 to fire the 8 cylinders and the spacing is different than the 6 cylinder because of the degrees of crank rotation between firings just like Warloch mentioned. You could change the cap and reluctor wheel out but by that time you're just about in a whole distributor anyway.

You can actually use the coil pick up, the wiring, and the module too, but that's about it.
