Honestly I just don't see the point- The stock oil bath filter flows plenty of air for a F-head & by the time all is said & done the dry filter illustrated probably isn't any easier to get at to clean than the than the steel wool.

the P.O. converted mine to paper and i converted it back.

I thought about changing mine over but i find it amazing the crap the oil catches. And mine see's allot of mud and dust. I think i will just leave well enough alone.

good idea, but i disagree with the first comment,if 50% of your filter is covered with dirt,i'm pretty sure you've lost more than 3% of your air flow.loljust my 2 cents though.

Well, I can see there's a trade-off, if a paper element gets dirty you loose airflow but the intake air stays clean.

If you use an oil based filter than when it gets dirty you keep the air flow up but the air isn't getting cleaned.

I think I'll replace mine with the guts out of one of those Dyson Cyclone vacs.

I can see the point for ease of maintenance. Pull out old filter, install new, done. Some people don't want to deal with the oil mess, oil disposal, etc. Kind
of a neat idea if done right. For me, I'll stay with the oil bath.

Same here. I would just clean it every time I changed the oil.

I have to strongly disagree with that.

I pulled the wire wool out of my oil bath housing and was able to install a cone-type K&N inside it. After having driven and maintained the oil-bath type for years, I was AMAZED at the power increase I got by this mod. It was immediately noticeable.

A nice side effect is that it sounds cool, too. :)

Installing the cone filter required fabricating a collar that provided a seal to the filter & to the inside of the old oil-bath filter housing.
