I have read a few posts on here about a Holley Projection actually installed and running on a 225 oddfire. Well, I just found a single barrell Projection designed for Ford and Chevy I-6's on ebay and got the box a couple weeks ago. It is now time to start installing it. What I would like to do is start a step by step thread of my installation of this system on my 56 CJ-6. Hopefully it is going to work and there will be an "easy" tech article to help other members with their installations. Unfortunenately I am unable to post attachments, so I may need some help from another member to post the pics I am goin to be taking. Let me know what you think.

I will be interested as well. Depending on funds this winter will decide if I start with the 2D I picked up or one of the more expensive setups and put the 2D on the boys jeep... If you need help with pics, let me know and I can host them for you if you want.

I'm very interested as well. Do you already have electronic ignition installed?

I haven't been able to post pictures ever since this site was overhauled - it's a bummer.

Would you post the Holley part # of the kit you purchased. I have a friend that has been looking for a One barrel kit for awhile and no luck. More specifically the TBI part # would be great. Thanks and good luck!!

The TBI part # according to the manual which came with the kit is 500-14. The kit # is 80401 but looks to be manufactured in 1993. The manual states this kit was designed to replace the one barrel carbs on chevy 250 / 292 and Ford 300 engines.

I have already converted the ignition system to a HEI from a 78 Buick 231. Actually the engine this is going on is the 231 from the same vehicle and is an oddfire. I used the intake off of the 225 it repaced (cracked block).

In order to adapt the one barrel throttle body to the 2 barrel intake I purchased a Trans-Dapt carb adapter from Summit (part#2025). It cost around $15.00 and I figure it would be a lot easier than trying to fab something. Last night I spent around an hour smoothing the transition from the Holley adapter in the kit to the Trans-Dapt adapter from Summit. There was a slight lip (1/16") between the two which I thought might effect the fuel from the injector to the manifold, so I eliminated it.

I have a few pictures I will try and get posted which show what has been done so far. Stay tuned!

Warloch...I am going to need your help with the pics, if you can message your email I can send them your way. Thanks in advance.

This is an engine pic from before I began working on this project, with the 2G carb.

Thanks to Warloch, it looks like I am now able to post pics on the project based on my last post. Now I can get everyone watching up to date on what I have completed.

Here is a pic of the Trans-Dapt carb adapter bolted to the 225 manifold. I had to elongate the mounting holes in the adapter a little with a round file to get it to match up perfect. After the fit was to my liking, I took the Trans-Dapt off and bolted it to the Holley adapter.

Because the opening in the Holley adapter was slightly larger than the Trans-Dapt, I smoothed the transition with a 100 grit drum sander on my Dremel tool.

And just to check clearances, I had to set the throtle body on top of the two adapters. I sure hope this works!

Sorry for my stupidity but could you tell me a little about the holley TBI. Is it a take off item or is this a kit that Holley sells to retrofit a carb? What controlls the electronics? Also, how much does one of these cost?
I am about to stuff a 225 into my CJ3A and am very interested in your project.

the Holly TBI is a kit you can get from Holley, they have been used on a few factory offerings like Dodge vans on a 318, I had one. So you see it can be a closed loop system by adding a few parts. they make a marine version that is way open ended.
I think the system they are reviewing here is an older one that seems to fit the 225. the new lits come complete at around 1000 to 1200, but several of the guys here have reported adaptability problems with them, and others love it. I am watching this as I want also to convert one of my 225s to this system and would love to find a plug and play system I could adapt to closed loop.

I have a 1-bbl holley on my evenfire :v6:. I made an adapter using a drill press out of a 1-inch chunk of aluminum. It was much easier than you might think.

I am excited to see how this turns out. I have the 2D kit on my 225 and it runs really well. It is a tad bit too much fuel at times though. I bet the 1 bbl will be about perfect!

Orange - did you ever get smaller injectors for your unit? I have the numbers to put 50# units on the one I have if I go that route.

I didn't. I was able to get it tuned really close to just about perfect. When pulling a steep grade on the freeway in OD, I do have to shift back to 3rd but other than that, it's pretty great. I decided I could use the money elsewhere on the Jeep. :)

I purchased this kit off of ebay for 300 shipped to my door. I really wasn't wanting to start another project on this until I had a few little things things tied up, but I couldn't pass it up. I was out of town this weekend, but should get some more time to work on this by the weekend. I really would like to get the throtle body and hard items installed so I can start on the wiring.

Wow $300 !! I would definitely give it a try for that price. I guess I'll have to start watching e-bay.
Not to change the subject but has anyone tried fitting a GM 4.3 tbi onto a 225 odd fire. I know that you can run this system without invovling the distributor and was toying with the idea of giving it a try.
I imagine I can find a complete vehicle to use as a donor for under $500

I'm pretty sure that's where you start getting into the MegaSquirt arena. I just picked up a 1971 Jeepster that I think I am going to try this route on.

I think something like that would run. I think the only problem you would run into is that the fuel map in the ECU will be for whatever motor you took it off of. You would probably run lean if it's off a 2.8 or rich if it's off anything else. If you can get a custom burn for the ECU you might be in business. I think that's why people use the megasquirt ECU so they can fine tune the fuel map. You could use all that stuff and then the megasquirt ECU instead of the factory ECU
