Anyone know the wall thickness used in the tubing on these roll bars for the intermediates?

If I heard right they are an aftermarket or dealer installed item?
I'm thinking of building/adding a full boll bar off of this one and just wanted to be reassured that these were not just eye candy.

99% certain the rollbar was an option. It is a good idea to tie it into the frame, unlike my setup (I am working to remedy this!)

If you were to bild a new one, I would move the rear supports BACK further, giving the rollbar a wider stance, and NOT have the main hoop be perfectly vertical (I'd lay it back a few degrees.) Yes, keep it directly over your head, but slant it rearward a little.

I would also buy a bikini top when I was fabbing it. Make certain the rollbar tucks into the bikini corners. Not exactly the right advice to give for SAFETY, but good advice so you do not limit yourself to some sort of sun protection...

That's a Kayline bar. "Official" Jeep accessory equipment. Ca '74-75 the bar became optional equipment from the factory. Same design but painted body color and ... installed at the factory.

Don't know what the wall thickness is.

its about the same as Sch40 black pipe, such as black water pipe. everyone has a lot of opinion on this and most will tell you to use DOM tubing. Also you can buy a kit for the front Hoop and side bars from 4WD. for your vehicle.

I think one would have to roll awful hard for that bar to fail even if it's not tied to the frame, so long as the tub is structurally sound. If it's a patched up rust bucket the roll bar will probably tear away in a roll. Even if the body is solid tying the bar into the frame may minimize damage to the body because the rear wheel wells won't be bearing the brunt of the impact.

Mine is on a fiberglass tub. However, I put full-size plates inside the wheel wells. They should make it stronger. They also take away ALL excuses I have for NOT tying it into the frame.

Should be .125" thick. I used one of the same roll bars to build my cage.
