I don't think the pictures show this but on the top of the windshield there is a channel the bikini top slides into. this is really rusty. Is this channel part of the windshield or is it applied ? If it is part of the windshield is it a replaceable part or do you get it with a replacement windshield ?

If it is replaceable I could cut it off with a cutoff wheel and smooth with a grinder.

I have found windshield channels at sites like morris4x4.com. I don't see why it's not something that's replaceable. Have you removed the cowl seal or the pad from the windshield to see if there is rust there too. I pulled both of yesterday to replace the seal and to put new hinges on and found alot more cancer than I expected. Seems my rust free jeep isn't rust free anymore.

I have the same issue with my windshield. I understand that Bestop sells a channel that can be installed/screwed in...I'm not sure if anyone sells one that can be spot welded back in.

I would also like to know if a replacement windshield for Intermediates have this channel already installed.

JMO - I'd remove the glass, grind out the rust and weld it up. You could do it with the glass in, but grinding and weld slag around glass is hazardous (to the glass), and it might be easier just to remove the glass while you're working on the frame.

I also have prety serious rust where the windshield clamps bolt to the windshield frame, again I think this could be repaired, no rust in the cowl gasket area. I do think if I repair I will remove the glass as I hope to strip prime and paint.

I may have to replace my entire windshield frame...yours looks much cleaner than mine does.

Does anyone know if the replacement windshields have the channel already installed?

I replaced mine with an offshore aftermarket frame and it had the channel on it.
