Tranny trouble with D20!

Hi guys once again I need some know how. I am replacing my T-14 with a T15.Pretty easy since even the transmission mount holes have been drilled into the cross member for the two from the factory. I have a D20 that I just picked up from a guy that said he had the lower gears put in it and wheeled it once. I'm guessing he put in the terra gears, I could see where the case was ground down to make room for the larger gears.
My problem is this D20 will not bolt up to the T15 because there is not a machined out space on the mating surface for the two shafts that look like quarter sized buttons coming out of the T15. I was told that d20's were all pretty much the same. Obviously not! Wish I knew how to post pictures it would be so easy to explain.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with grinding down the case in order to clear the "buttons so the case will be flush? My original d20 has the machined space and needs a rebuild. I would rather not try to take all the parts out of the refurbished one just to swap into my case and risk damaging them if the die grinder way will work. Also it looks as though the machined area is larger than it needs to be. Is that for lubrication cooling? I wouldn't think so.

OK after looking at the input gear which is a 18-8-23 it looks like he had t6he d18 mod done that I have read about on line. Not the expensive terra kit.

Thanks for the pic. The area I'm talking about is to the left and down from the one you have marked. It's the one coming out of the large bore, kind of shapede like a dogbone.

I had the same EXACT problem.

I just took the case to a machinist. He stuffed the hole full of rags, and machined out what i needed. Cost me $30.

you'll be there forever with a grinder, It would be a PITA.

Thanks for the advice. A machinest might be the way to go, although the do it yourself in me tells me to try the grinder first. Daryl hooked me up with a gear so I can run my other d20, at least temp. Great guy. He knows his stuff! Thanks again.
