I found a Mark Williams Dana 60 R), 65 1/2" wide. With 5 on 5.5 axles detroit locker and 4.11 gears new brakes. This axle has not had oil in it yet and the perches are not on it either.for $300. So I could not pass this one up.

My problem is do I cut down this perfect axle or do I use it FULL width. I have a CJ 5 with a 4.3 chevy and an SM 420 box, springover and 35s. I have located a dodge(passenger side drop) front 44 with 4.11 and 5 on 5.5 lug pattern that I would use with the 60.

What are the pros and cons of this swap and should I cut them down.
Also the economy  is helping me with my decision as well.

I'd say cut it down to waggy size. THe wagoneer rear was 59 incha nad the front was 61. That was a real good width for the jeep i had. 65 is really wide for the little jeep and looks kind of odd, but if it is a dedicated rock rig then it would be good to run full width.

I never quite understood using full width axles in Jeeps. By the time guys are done widening, stretching, hacking, and slashing, they might as well be wheeling a F350. I'd narrow it down and keep one of the features that make Jeeps good. Compact size.

Mine are narrowed to 54" WMS, 4.75 Backspace, 10" rim and they still stick out a bit. 65.5 will have you out 5.75" farther than mine. Unless you run a wheel with way more back spacing and a fender flare, your whole tire will be outside the body.

Id cut em down too. Gotta keep a jeep looking like a jeep IMO. Im not even a big fan of waggy axles under cj's, they just stick out too far.

I plan on using it off road 95% of the time. Unfortunately $$$$ is also a BIG factor with the economy. No work lately. I would prefer to cut it a little but the front wont be cheep. The rear would not be too bad, just cut and respline.
