ok here go's. i have a 69 cj-5 with i was told 64-67 chevy 327 with points ignition. been putting it together for about a year now. had it running for months and would start it couple times a week. was hooking up the wiper motor and turned the key on to find the hi and low. well after i got the wiper motor hooked up i went in the house. two days later i found that i had forgot to turn the key back off. the result was a melted wire from ignition switch to + of coil, points melted part of rotor button melted, inline fuse from switch to coil blown and a fuse to the alternator blown. I replaced mentioned items and i had power to the switch at the coil and to the distributor, but nothing out to the plugs. and like i said it ran fine before this. oh. there was two wires that came off the switch when i was doing the wiper motor. one from the batery which i put on the batery post on the switch. and the other was went to the alternator, it is on a post that is not marked. i am not 100 percent the i put the one in the correct spot. i have tryed moving it to other spots with same results. so i replaced the whole distributor with same results. power at the distributor but nothing to the plugs.

/\/\ coil, get hot oil burns off (cracks)

Points and condenser. Make sure also you are getting 12v to start and 9.6v on run to the coil +.
too low and you will get nothing, too high and it will burn up coil

thanks i Will try a new coil. i made a mistake on my question. the wire that melted was the distributor wire to - side of coil. the ignition to coil wire was fine. and another thing. I do not have a external ballist resister. dont no exactly how to wire it in. from reading other post answer sounds like i should have one. im getting married this weekend and have a ton to do before them so it will probibly be next week before i get to try the new coil. but this gives me a place to start. thank you and i will let u no.

Tell your parts guy you want the coil with the internal resistor (12V) then you don't have to worry about the external one.

/\/\ make sure you have 12v to the coil. Some people will hide the resistor, or tape over it to hide it also. 9.6 volts on a internal coil will cause low spark or no spark. prolonged periods of time will burn up coil.
