Tube Tires??

    Well it looks like i may have found a guy to trade out my swampers for some skinnier tires for the flatty. His are on a 16 inch rim and are tube tires. My question is can tube tires be changed to be tubeless? Is it the rim or the actual tire that requires a tube?

    Both. I've seen tubeless tires seal on a tube type wheel, but I wouldn't trust it.

    What is with the rim? There seems to be an outside bead. I got the tires and rims and will need a tube, but later get new tires. The rims were actually what i was after. I can fine vintage tires all day for the 16 inch rim, but my 15s i am kind of out of luck at times :(

    Rivets=leaks. Tube rims also don't have the same "bead" surface as tubeless rims so they never seem to seat quite right. Not worth it IMHO.

    Just a reminder about inflating tube tires.since a lot of folks have probably never dealt with tubes before.inflate the tube and then deflate a couple times.this lets the tube unfold inside the tire and lets trapped air escape.i had the Firestone NDCC tires mounted at a local chain tire store.next day i have a flat tire.they did not inflate properly. i guess they don't do many tube tires.

    I wouldn't trust tube tires to a tire store these days. Most of the kids who work there have never seen one.

    They are pretty easy to put on yourself though. I put all 5 of mine on in about 45 minutes using the harbor freight manual changer.

    I see it's $60 now. Was $40 when I got it.

    dito on the inflate/deflate/inflate routine.

    some of older tube tires had a series of pin size hole around the tire so the tube would unfold. if i remember correctly it had 3 or 4 pin hole in sidewall.
