Looking through my junk box for a hose clamp, I came across this:

I knew I had one of these when I was in CA (25 years ago) but I had no idea I still had it.

Not a big thing, but something I can use. :driving:

    And, a genuine :AMC: part!

OK...so that IS stock....I have one too and thought the P.O. rigged something in for the seat.

Is that the eye for the passenger '72-'75 CJ fold and tumble seat? I have a set of seats and brackets from a '72-'75 as near as I can tell complete that I'm putting in my daughter's '70, complete with the under seat pull on the passenger side, but didn't know what the bottom part of the two sided hood grabbed on to....

Side note. I found the '72-'75 driver's side bracket pushes the seat more towards the outside of the tub, to a point the seat almost rubs on the inside of the tub versus the '71 and older bracket. I took a pic and will have to post up of the difference in the bracket. When set one in front of the other you can see the huge difference in them. Bolt up is the same, but the offset of the seat mounting "straps" are way different. Really surprised me.

Yes, it's the striker for the 'fold and tumble' passenger seat latch. A regular eye bolt would probably work in its place, but the eye of the actual part is flattened and broadened to better mate with the catch on the seat. The eye is also welded closed, which is different from the hardware store eye bolts that I've looked at.

The bolt on my CJ-6 is broken off, so I can put this to use immediately. There is a threaded insert in the floor that the eye bolt screws into.

Didn't know that about the seat bracket alignment. If I had not installed an under-seat tank in one of these Jeeps, I would have guessed that teh new seat position takes advantage of more clearance with where the under-seat filler neck would be. However, I put a last-model under-seat tank (the one with the lock ring and unobtainable sender) in my '73 and don't recall any interference.

I wonder which location is better centered on the wheel? It would be interesting to look at how the early and intermediate (or rear tank?) brackets are centered wrt the steering wheel. I don't think the wheel moves any, from early to intermediate, considering the dash does not change (AFAIK).

Gonna try my first photobucket pic share.

If this works, the top black bracket is the '71 and older style of driver's seat bracket. The bottom is the '72-'75 style. The top bracket centers the seat better on the '71 and older CJ to the steering wheel. I had the '72 style in there and there was quite an offset between the steering column and the seat.

I've had a regular eye bolt on mine for years....wouldn't want to get rid of the original would you?

wow...I'd never noticed that difference before.

When I straightened out the wheel in SSDutch I ended up with a fair amount of offset between the wheel and seat. I actually like it--it gives me extra room for shifting and leg clearance on that side.

Yeah, my brackets are shifted to the left, but the steering wheel seems well centered to the seat. I measure 13.5" to the center line of the column and the middle of the set is ... 13.5". Maybe the steering column location is different from early to intermediate?

Measured the Daughter's '70 with stock steering and dash tonight and it's 16" from the center of the column to the outside edge of the dash. Would explain the change in seat brackets. I'm guessing maybe they did this to clear the steering shaft past the exhaust manifold and or possibly the motor mount on the I-6 when they made the changes.
