    First...I'm new here.
Second...I've used the search engine, and I think these are new questions.

I bought a 69 CJ5 earlier this from a guy who really tried to take care of it and did a lot of the ground work on restoring it. Had a 97 TJ for about year, sold it..and am very very very happy to be in a 'real' jeep finally!!!

    Questions:
Was white an original color? (Mines white)
What colors where the engine? (Mine are orange and blue?)
How do I find out if it originally had an oil-bath filter? (Mine does not, and I've messed with them enough on old tractors that I DON'T want to have...just curious.)

Wiring...wiring was obviously the one area where the PO didn't feel comfortable and the first thing I have to do in order to really trust this thing. (Sometimes you have to reach up and 'massage' the wires around the ignition switch for it to start...and the lights flicker at high speeds)
So I'm looking at wiring harnesses. Would like to go oem...and found the one walck's site. Anybody have experience with these? Are wiring harnesses worth it? I can solder...but I've yet to find the cloth wire covers.

and the mother of all questions....

    TIRES!!! lol

He put on 15x8 rims and 33x12.50s. They're too big in my opinion...and rub the leafs if turned too tight. No lift and I intend to keep it that way. I've found the original sizes and treads...but does anybody have suggestions for "getting close" with 15x8 rims? I had 15x8 rims and BFG A/Ts on my 97 and honestly HATED how the tire/rims matched up. The tread on the BFGs was too narrow. It looked like the beads were sitting wider than the corner of the treads.

I'm completely open to suggestions or experience on the tires. Anything a little smaller in diameter and would match up on an 8" wide rim while having an "old-school" tread. Does not have to be mud tires. I do not intend for it to be in mud but don't want a H/T tread either.
(Anybody want some Firestone Destination A/Ts...I've got 4 with less than 200 miles on them!!!:beer:R) )

    That's a lot of questions.

Hope to have some pics soon.

P.S. LOVE that engine and gearing. Maybe my seat-o-the-pants-meter is off...but I don't think the TJ compares (Even with the CJ having 33s)

    Welcome!
Yes, white was an original color.
I assume it's a Dauntless... Engine color was a metallic greenish. Some of the folks here narrowed a very close match down to Detroit Diesel Alpine Green, or something like that..
As far as the air cleaner, I think they used both for a period of time, '69 included.. My '67 had an oilbath, but I've seen '67's that didn't...
For tires, I wouldn't go any narrower than a 10.50 on an 8" wheel, but opinions vary...

Yes, a V6 Dauntless. I guess he just liked orange and blue? I like the sounds of Detroit Green. (I've been around too many JD tractors.)

Didn't know if the BFG's were notoriously narrow and I may get away with other 10.50s. If I have to buy new wheels AND tires I'll have to wait. Right now some oem side steps, new hub caps, and the wiring harness are priorities.

    Thanks.

I have BFG All Terrain TA's on three of my vehicles, a set of LT265/75R16, 31X10.50R15, and 33X10.50R15, and none of them have a particularly narrow tread width.

maybe I'll get some pics tonight.

I'm in southern SOUTHERN Illinois...an hour from Paducah, KY and an hour from Evansville, IN.

I ordered some Cooper Discovery STs yesterday in 31x10.50 and as far as the rest of the details...well...lets just say the PO wasn't extremely mechanically inclined. (I've got two words for you guys..."zip"-"ties"...lol) A Fan and perhaps an overdrive have been added to the list. The one he's got on it now is definitely not stock. It's a too small and sits about 4" off the radiator!

But to his credit he sure did take the best care of her that he knew how to.
