Hey guys I started tooling around in my 5 a little bit and have come to realize that she shakes like hell in reverse. I tried doing a search but didn't have much luck. Where should I start looking to diagnose this?
    Thanks!

Trans/ t-case mounts, motor mounts would be a good place to start.

Yes, mounts. The V6 Jeeps have (an adjustable?) restraint cable to prevent shaking in reverse, as I recall. Maybe the F134s too. If the mounts and any restraints are ok, I'd suspect the clutch disk is worn or oily. Shaking will always be worse in reverse, because of the relative movement between the engine and clutch linkage.

If you have the restraint cable mounted, maybe it's not tight enough.

Supposedly, the cable was for just that- clutch chatter in reverse. When I swapped in the T18 I didn't use the cable, and I don't have any clutch chatter at all, FWIW....

Now I am Curious I have a 68 with the v6 and I have never seen a cable that would hold the engine, where would it be?

More mass? Different mounts? Lots of variables could be at work.

Having never owned a pre-73 Jeep... I think it goes from a bracket on the bell to the crossmember.

Yes, there's a bracket off of a lower trans. to bell bolt, and the cable runs back to the crossmember. Probably 5/16" diameter.
