I'm using the original front belts out of my Dad's Tux. The chrome buckles with the Jeep emblem look cool, but the belts themselves aren't in great shape, and the mechanisms are worn. I just don't trust them anymore. I only have one belt in the back, a cheap aftermarket that I put back there ~10 years ago.
I want to put 4 new belts in it. Just basic belts, but I want decent ones, and at a good price. Asking too much? Probably.
Anyone have any suggestions/ experiences with anything in particular?

has lap belts for $20 each and you dont have to blow a day digging through cheerios in the back seat of a junkyard donor.
also try searching on hot rod seat belts. It seems like the hot rodder crowd has all kinds of belts at reasonable prices and different colors.

Or if you have cubic dollars to spare have those originals rewebbed. There are companies out there that will stitch up new webbing.

I'd be willing to bet that seat belts were at least an option from the factory as my very original 22,000 mile '65 CJ5 came with a set. Jeep buckles, and the sewn on tag reads Alofs Life Gard, Model No A5500, Alofs Mfg Co, Grand Rapids MI, Date Manufactured 1965.

upgraded mine from lap to shoulder belts (in the front, back is still lap). bought them from summit racing.

mine came with the factory belts in the front. no longer trusted 40 yr old webbing with modern traffic and high speeds.

My '69 cj had the o.e. belts still in it when i bought it. they were in bad shape and i later replaced with 3 point shoulder belts from www.julianos.com.this is not a bolt in job as i had to weld a lug to the roll bar for the shoulder (third point attachment) belt.not to hard but i pulled out roll bar to do welding.I really feel a lot more secure ,of course this would take away from the stock appearance if your jeep is all stock.can't post pics cuz it's disassembeled at this time.

I would think that it would be pretty easy for anyone to tell if there Jeep came with factory seat belts, or a dealer options, by the tub. To have seat belts there should be extra metal parts and strengthening brackets where the belts attach to the tub that were factory installed. I don't know, but I would think that even dealer option installed would have some kind of factory made looking brackets that the dealer used when installing the option. I would think that if a Jeep just has holes drilled for the bolts, just big wahers, etc. and nothing else, the odds are that some owner installed them, as I can't imagine a dealer just adding them that way. Even back then the feds had some say on the way they were attached, type of belts, etc.
From what I remember, CJ's were classified as trucks or utility vehicles back then and so were not required to have seatbelts long after cars had to have them. I never saw a CJ that came with those belts that had the round Jeep logo on them, but Wagoneers and trucks had them a long time before CJ's had belts and so I know a lot of guys that took the belts of Wagoneers and trucks that had that logo and installed them in there CJ's
