aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

    I like the intake!

Take time to do anything you do right. I spend half a day working on the front corner of the frame about 3 weeks ago. It's been raining for almost a week and a half now in NE Florida. In a rain break I see rust in the welds starting to poke it's ugly head through. I guess I'll sandblast it once again............

Usually I would redirect you to the pictures and/or tech area but Sparky doesn't have that restored. He'll get there though....

I was told at a parts store with the above type of air cleaner pictured you need to make sure to have a vent or scoop to allow it access to cool air. It was explained to me that because it is sitting right on top of the mainfold it is pulling hot air in and will eventually overheat and burn up your engine. NOW I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE or not but thought I'd bring up what I was told.

Can't understand that, because the factory oil-bath air cleaner does not go thru the hood nor does it have a snout ducting in fresh air from the front. Not an expert but if it were mine I dont think I would be too concerned. JMO.

Yeah I don't quite completely understand why either. I wanted to buy one for my chevy pick up and he almost refused so I went with a different and cheaper type. I guess when I look at most factory set ups the air cleaner at least has a snout that gets it passed the top of the engine. Believe me I"M NO EXPERT either, just saw that air cleaner and thought I'd bring up what I heard. I hope it works out because it's pretty cool looking. I wonder if I can adapt one to my 134 ha ha.

I had an air breather like this on the '59 El Camino when I was a kid. I ran over 100,00 miles with it and never had a problem with it. I think someone was just trying to get you to put a scoop on. :) Of course that might be fun too. Especially with a L or F 4 cylinder...

Definately an overdrive. Not really a twin stick setup. Just not the typical linkage mounting spot for OD. Appears to be original drivetrain with OD which is a huge find even though not sure what you paid for jeep but great combination of parts.

Yes it is an OD. I finally got under er last night, cleaned up a little and found the "Warn Overdrive" tag. I guess I'll let the cat outta the bag. I gave 2k for my 5. You guys think I over paid?
    Thanks!

Looks great. I have the v6 with the T86 and I don't see the need for overdrive, I can drive 60 mph. but I have factory 3.73s. I am planning an eventual swap to a T-14 from my '68 parts drivetrain to get the lower 1st and 2nd that you have.

I think your price was about right. Only matters what you think. But the v6 is desirable, the lack of rust is impressive, and the overdrive is worth several hundred on its own.

Great rig. Very similar to the way my 70 was. Under seat gas tank, steering upgrade, HEI, flanged 44, single stick, rats nest wiring, primer. Mine was the T14 tranny before I changed it.

Check your brakes, fix (replace) the wiring, change the fluids. Primer does not protect the metal from water so you'll need some paint.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I had to take a little bit of time off from workin' on the 5, bank account is already starting to hurt. I got some new taillights installed, the heater removed, and quite a bit of the wiring cleaned up. I've got some new LED reverse lights waiting to go in I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Next things on my list are addressing the brakes, figuring out the horrible chatter in reverse, installing reverse lights, addressing the "CJ Lean", fixing the rust on the rocker, fabing up some rocker guards, fabing up some corner guards, figuring out some wheels/tires, and paint.

Let me tell you, it is an ongoing project, got mine last year and have slowly been doing this and that, my biggest project will be taking the body off and doing the do on it, My wife and myself are torn, we do not want a pristine body, but we want to do it correct so it last. so we are going to do the sand blast, new metal where needed, but leave the few dings and stuff. We figure it will give it that old jeep look, not the rebuilt jeep look, What ever it becomes it will be our baby and actually has a better place in the garage than my 04 or her 08 wranglers.

What did you pick for your LED reverse lights?

Got 'em off ebay. I installed them yesterday, as well as go the brake lights working. Sorry I don't have any pics of them in yet but I'll get em in a day or so.
    Thanks for all the comments!
