Hey all I'm new to the forums. I did a few searches and couldn't come up with what I needed. I was wondering if anyone had a picture of the automatic shifter assembly for the Th400. I found scanned pages of the service manual but it didn't help much. I just picked up a complete drive train for my '69 Half cab, but I think I am missing some of the shifter parts. Any help would be appreciated. I have to say you guys have some nice rigs on here. One day I hope mine does justice.

Post some pictures of what you have then we can tell you what, if anything, your missing :). Jeepster shifters are pretty simple, no a whole lot to them.

I will post some when I get home from work. From what I can tell I think I have a mix of the floor and console shifter.

They only ever had floor shifters/consoles with automatic so that will make things a whole lot easier. They did however have a console shift standard which looks a lot like the auto setup at first glance.

Here is all I have. When we pulled the console this is what was under and it was hooked to a TH400 with a single shift rod with a bolt that went through the hole in the bottom lever.

This is what I was looking at. What do you think? If you look close in the pictures of my shifter you can tell there is a sheet of metal rivited over the top and the parts are bolted through that.

Your's appears to be the early version without the lockout button on the shifter from what I can see of it. I'll try get a picture maybe tonight or tomorrow. Should also be a neutral safety switch but it may have been removed because a previous owner couldn't find a replacement. I might have a picture in my Photo Bucket account, I'll see what I can dig up.
The first is the later style with the lockout button. The remaining three show the neutral safety switch installed. There should also be a light for the shift indicator. Couldn't find a later style shifter apart to take a picture of. Very similar except for the lockout part is different.
    Clickey pics.

Thanks for the info and Pics Pack Rat. I cleaned the thing up real good and took a look at it in the daylight. I think your right on. It is Missing the Neutral safety switch and the light for the indicater. It needs some work to make it lock into Park. Whoever fabricated it didn't place the shifter trough far enough forward, but a dremel will take care of that. It seems to be really sloppy from side to side, but when I tighten the bolt it won't let the shifter pivot far enough to shift in and out of park. Any suggestions on that? Is it supposed to have a reverse lockout?

Sounds like the spring that pushes the handle back could be weak or maybe broken. There's also a pivot point that needs to be lubed so the shift moves side to side easily. Good idea to take it apart where it pivots in the housing too and clean and lube it up good. There should be a nylon bushing or what's left of a nylon bushing between the pivot and the housing.

I'm going to take it apart this weekend when i get it to my Dad's. He has a service manual. I 'll use it to figure out what's up.

I pulled it all apart and cleaned it, lubed the pivot point, it does work better. I found that the bolt holding the shifter to the pice that slides is bent and that could be the culprit. I gotta stop and pick up a replacement on the way home.
