Could someone tell me where the windshield wiper vaccum hose picks up the vaccum under the hood?
    Thanks all!

look on the intake manifold or on the carb. if it was a V6 there was a port on the intake.

There are a few places to pick it up.

Best place is to get it from your fuel pump if you have a dual action fuel pump. There would be the fuel connections and then about a couple of inches lower there would be more connectors that would have vacuum generated by the dual action pump.

Now if you don't have a dual action pump you could get vacuum from the intake manifold. There is a hole just below the carb in the head. There may already be something connected in the hole or there may be a plug in it. Either way, you need to tap into that source to get vacuum.

There were some old carburetors that had an outlet for vacuum, but most times that vacuum was what was used for the heater / defroster vacuum.

The down side to not getting vacuum from the fuel pump is that when the wipers are on, say at a traffic light, and you begin to accelerate, the wipers may slow down or stop since the vacuum drops when accelerating, and that will affect wiper speed.

The other side is true too -- if you are accelerating and then let off the gas the wipers will speed up.

    good luck

FYI same thing holds true for getting the vacuum from the intake on the V6.

It should be on your fuel pump. Drivers side towards the lower front of the motor.

Thanks guys! I'll look for it tonight after I figure out firing order for my wifes' 98 Grand Cherokee. What a pain. Doing a tune up on it and mixed up wires cuz the danged cap is so close to the cowl on this new crap. But I should have known better.

    Alex,

Let me know if you would like a pic of the spark plug wires on the distributor from a '98 Grand Cherokee. My wife drives the same. Can't get to it until tonight though.
