engine swap

    2.8 chevy V 6 with five speed $300.00:rofl: on local Craigs list to a 61 CJ.
    What do you all think of this swap?

    From what I've heard & read about the GM 2.8L engine, it wasn't that great in the factory vehicles, especially Jeep Cherokees. If you want a GM V6, I'd hold out for a 4.3L engine.

    Be sure and read all you can about different choices for engine swaps. Frequently, your transmission choice will drive the rest of your conversion effort. Start here:

    i saw a good condition extremely low mile 2.8 go for $50 last week.

    Hold out for a 4.3 (any junk yard should have a ton of em for around $200..... and im talking running, complete. grab one and the computer if you need it (try to get a carbed unit)

    grab you a SM420. toss a saturn/warn overdrive on it, and run like crazy cause that jeep will move.

    Stay away from the 2.8 they are not worth the time or the $.
