I am in the process of rewiring a modified 73 CJ5 with an AMC 360. I purchased the Centech wiring harness for Jeeps. My concern is the PO put in a Kill switch. The kill switch is sketchy at best. Is there anything I should be concerned about as far as removing the Kill switch and replacing all the wires? And should I try to disengage/remove the kill switch first? Any advice appreciated! I feel this is going to be a long daunting task and extreme test of patience.

nice work. a new wiring harness is one of the best possible upgrades for these oldies but goodies.

when you say kill switch, do you mean if a switch is off, the ignition switch to the starter doesn't work (you turn the key and no starter engagement)?
    - or -
kill switch activated, there is no power draw from battery, as in it kills the power to everything?

now, my opinion on these types of jeeps, the second option is probably more realistic as for the purpose of a kill switch. the first option is (as i said, my opinion) completely unnecessary as a quick peak underneath the completely open dash is going to show someone exactly where a 'kill switch' is located.

even more realistic is if someone wanted to start/steal your jeep, they would just look behind your dash at your starter and just short the wires together, there are only a couple options there, and they are going to get it (unless power to the whole rig is cut off).

i guess the purpose of the switch matters. mine isn't for theft deterrence. it's to prevent the battery from draining. my brake lights stay on once in awhile, so i just flip the switch every time i turn the jeep off. it's mounted right on the dash, and in-line on the battery cable between the positive terminal and the starter solenoid.

actually, i didn't have to alter anything when i installed my new wiring harness, as the harness doesn't include the battery leads.

New issue.....The Centech wiring harness I have is designed for a one wire or Delco 10 SI alternator. I have a different Alternator.

I have the ignition wired correctly (it starts), but do not know how to wire the Alternator. The Alternator is connected to the Solenoid by a thick red wire. Also I have 4 wires coming out of the Voltage regulator; one connects to the solenoid and the other three contect to the Alternator. Two connect to one plug on the alternator and one to another plug on the altenator. The single one has a wire that originally conected that back to the previous "main harness" (now not connected to anything). There is a second thick red wire that connected back to the "main harness" also now not currently connected to anything.

I am thinking one (if not both) of the wires previously connected to the 'main Harness' provides power to "start" the alternator charging as soon as the engine starts. Can anyone confirm this????...and can I use a wire from my current harness that I will not be using ex. power windows (got no doors) to provide power to start the alternator charging???
