What T-case do you have in the 71? Your 73 will probably have the Dana-20 which is a straight out the back output for a centered rear axle. Your 71 may have the off set 44 rear-end?

No, they don't bolt up. There are a lot of differences: bellhousing, clutch linkage, input shaft length, clutch, engine mounts, etc etc. And, the front of the V6 is going to be a mile away from the radiator. Just becasue they are both Jeeps does not make it any easier.

It's your Jeep, and you can do what you want with it, but to me, this is swap would be a lot of trouble for no benefit. AMC inline 6s are cheap and easy to find, and the 258 is more powerful than the 225. Why would you ever want to do this?

just for the heck of it. i'm very familiar with the 258's and 134's. had many cj's over the years but never one with the v6. you are right the 71 has a single stick dana 18 and the flanged offset d44 rear. the 73 is d20 with centered d44. didnt know all the diffences. both motors have @50k on em. the frame and body on the 71 are shot. and the 73 is close to being road worthy. bought the 71 sight unseen except for pics. was supposed to be a 67 with a swapped in t18. but po was mistaken it has the 3 sp. has good 16 in NDT tires that i want for my 46 2a. if this is going to be a major pain i'll leave well enough alone. already have rear axle sold so maybe i'll sell the rest off also. thanks for saving me some big headaches.
