I have a 1957 cj5 with an engine serial number reading 4J47926 and a vin number reading 5754851377. Is it an original engine or not? is there any way to find out if it is the original engine to the vehicle? Any help or info will be appreciated.

all I can tell you is that prior to 1967, al F4 engines were marked 4J plus the sequential serial number.
    only info I have.

no way to know really... its the correct engine, maybe not the original. Whats the milage on the jeep? if its 130K theres a chance its not original, if its 17K original miles, its probably the original engine...

    Welcome aboard btw!

thanks for the help. the mileage is unknown (odometer says 5). i think it has fairly low miles though. it was a farm jeep in ellensburg, washington as far as i know. I was under the jeep last night and I would be surprised if it isn't the original engine with all the leaks it has.
