Im thinking of geting a lock right for my front dana 25 10 spline. Im running 35s and the stock flathead. Im not hard on it and honestly i think the driveshaft would break before the axles snapped unless it busted at the u joint. How many others have this setup am i asking for trouble? I have lockout hubs so its not a problem on the street. Thats mainly why i would want a front one instead of a rear. Id liek to change the rear eventually anyway cus i hate the tapered shafts not to mention its got a crazy amout of play so its on its way out

Do they make a lock-right that fits the D25? I think that if they do you'd be fine with it. It might be the Aussie locker that's not made for the D25, I can't remember.

yes it fits the 25 and 27 10 spline. Im not sure about the rear axle i think its a dana 41 and there is a limited slip that fits it but they dont make new ones. I think they are a powertrac or somthing like that

From your description of your driving you should be fine with a lock-rite in the front.

The Lock-rite from a 10-spline Dana 44 fits a Dana 41 perfectly. And yes, the Lock-rite is available for the '25!

Also, when I put the Lock-rite in to my D41 my rear had a huge amount of slop in it. Once I removed the spiders and side gears and installed the locker most of the slop went away.

I thought i once read somewhere the 44 axles fit right in the 41 housing. Do you know anything about that? Id suspect there a bit bigger but what other advantages would that have and what else would i have to change to make them fit?

The later 44 axles are 19-spline and thus a bit stronger. I have a set of these along with the "spare" parts from a 19-spline lock-rite that I intend to install one day.

You are correct, the 10-splines are not as strong as the 19- and -27 spline axles but they're a lot touher than the magazines would have you believe. I'm only replacing mine because my right-side (short) axle has had the splines tweaked a little and I don't want to have it shear out on the trail. As far as I've been able to tell, the 19-spline axles from a D44 swap right in, you just have to change the side gears in the differential to mate with the beefier axles.

One more question how can i tell the difference between the 41 and the 44 are there stampings on the carrier or is there just the tag (thats never there). And do they have the same style taperd ends or are they splined or 1 piece? Thanks this is very helpful. I usto know everything there was to know about this type of stuff but that was like 8-10 years ago :)

You have to pull the axles to know for sure if you have 10- or 19-splines. As for the Dana 41-44 recognition the '41 has an oddball diff cover that is more rounded than the '44. The '44 cover is more rounded on one side and sort of triangular on the other. Tapered hubs interchange between the two models, and flanged axles only came on the very latest offset '44s, beginning in '70 or '71 IIRC. They're pretty rare but pop up every once in a while.

Dana axles have the model size with a raised stamp on them. As you are facing the diff., on the right hand side toward the bottom of the housing (you may have to clean the grease and crud off) you will find a 41,44,25,27 ect.

so are the late flanged style 44s the most desireable offset axle to swap to or is there another offset axle thats better? I supose if i found one id be better off getting the whole deal rather than swaping all the parts to mine.

The Lockright is a pretty easy install. I have one in the Dana 23 in my MB. Same part # for the 25.

Like was said you can put 19 spline axles in a 41. Have to change side gears to 19 spline units from a 44. Works good. Done it several times. Good time to put in a lock rite also. I have them in front and rear in the CJ-5 and like them. It mostly takes a little getting used to. They aren't really scary. Just remember, any time you are under power they lock up and won't release, they only release when not under power. There is some jerking at slow speeds when turning sharp, like into a parking spot, but you get used to it pretty easy.... Nickmil

    :iagree:

I've only heard mine unload loudly a couple of times, the most noise I've really noticed is when making a sharp turn on pavement and then it's the tires that protest moreso than the locker...

Is there a lock rite that fits the rear of an MB? I want to put one in the front but haven't seen one listed for the rear.

I ran a lock rite in a 10 spline 25 on 33's for years. Make sure you have lots of spare axles. They won't last no matter how easy you wheel. Mine always exploded where the axle goes into the lockrite. What a pain to get out.

I grenaded an older style bendix type D25 axle shaft inside the front hub (with 31" tires), ended up swapping over to later style cardon cross ujoint axles from a D27.
