This is my first attempt at fabrication. The reason I went with the 2 tabs sticking out is so I can use My tow bar. One of the tabs goes thru the C chanel and bolts to the frame rails, this allowes me to weld both front and back.

The fabrication looks good, and I like the dual tabs idea to use the tow bar.

I think I'd put the D-ring on only the tab that bolts to the frame. For some of the recoveries I've seen, I'd be worried about the bolt holding the d-ring across the two tabs.

    I didn't know what was best, I did use a 7/16 grade 8 bolt.

Looks great. I agree with the D-ring on the frame tab. That is how they were designed to be used.

X2, it looks weak in the middle when the clevis is between the two tabs.

I don't remember where I saw the picture but the only picture I have seen of a failed D-ring the failure was the threaded portion of the ring where the male threads mated with the female threads. It basically pulled the threaded pin out of the D-Ring. There are probably different grades or quality D-rings just as there are different grades of bolts.

on a straight line pull it will be plenty strong. Its the side ways pull I would be worried about. Mounted on the tab it would pull against the tab itself. Mounted between the tabs a side pull would tend to bend the bolt and possibly cause it to fail.

I think you don't need the shackle in this arrangement. Just put the bolt through the loop of the strap. That way you don't have the shackle acting like a lever on the bolt. Side pulls would be supported by both tabs that way. Just my 2 cents. Looks good.

We use D rings on our work trailers. You should get a heavier set because we have broke the smaller ones with chain binders. The larger D rings have a bolt that comes with them that is rated for it.

Guess your first attempt at fabrication was questionable :) I think itll be ok for all but the worst pulls. Good rule of thumb i go by when fabricating is theres no such thing as overkill

    If it's worth building,,,, it's worth Over-Building!!!!!
Looks good though, should be plenty strong for all but the most severe pulls.
