For other sources of rust repair panels try Rigid Steel. They are good and they can make anything you want. www.rigidsteel.com I think their prices are reasonable too. No problem with the help. We are all here to help. As for amp settings.....I just get a piece of the same thickness material and test. Now I just set the welder and I will know right away if it is good or not. With welding practice makes perfect. Good luck and post lots of photos.

Cool. More room is always better. Try over-inflating the tires a few pounds. That should make it push easier. Just remember to let the air back out again. :)

    Texas,
I am in Glennville GA (around SAV). Seems like we are having some of the same questions. I am currently removing the tub from my 73 CJ5 (under builds "to build or not to build") and as I am not a great welder trying to decide wether to buy or build mine. You seem to be about 2 steps ahead of me, as I will complete my tub removal this weekend (hopefully), and be ready for sandblasting by next Saturday. Then I will know if I need to continue or not.
Yours looks good, gonna keep checking the thread to see how progress is. Good Luck!!

    thanks!

its been a long time coming... with the economy, job security, moving shops etc... i hope to make some low budget progress on it now that im more settled...

if i dont, im gonna get discouraged and give up and probably endd up getting rid of it... which i dont want to do... but i know how i am...

the compressor i have is just a neecy-hair too weak to push the blaster... and the sand was a little damp too... so maybe sunday... what it did push tho, worked real well...

i used play sand from home depot... lots cheaper than some of the other body places...

i'll ltry to keep on posting.. and let you know how its coming... my guess is youll catch up and thenm pass me as far as progress goes...

Ugh, play sand works horribly in a sand blaster. AMHIK. It retains too much moisture. Menards now sells Black beauty beads at a reasonable price. That stuff works awesome and in the end cost you less because you can actually get good results from it. It would more than make the difference between 'a neecy-hair too weak' and working great.
Not sure if you have Menards around there though.

see if you can get some -44 grit from a hardware store. There is a company called the atlanta sand company that we get our blasting sand from. Usually runs around 6-8 bucks/100lb bag depending where you get it. May have to do some calling and hunting to find a distributor for it but it works really well. If all fails there is a hardware store here in athens that keeps a ton of it in stock.

tried the play and and canuckCJ was right... the compressor im using is putting too much water into the line...

im using a tag-along IR commercial compressor... so this time, im gonna try some black beauty...

does anyone know if it clumps up too if water is introduced? its not POURING the water in, but its there... and im not sure i can put in an in line drier/trap....

short of sending it out, i dont know what else to do... and i DONT want to send it out... kinda takes the fun out of it... ya know?

If you are renting a tag along air compressor , ask at the rential place for one of these.
It is a moisture serarator, this ppicture is of a 2" on you shold need only a 3/4" or 1" .
Mount this at you sand blaster these will take out about 90% of liquid water.
Here in NM were it is dry alot of people don't use them because thay think it is dry . but after thay use them thay will demand the rental co has them to go with the air compressor.

Other types of dryers will get evan more moisture out of the compressed air.
    but thay are $$

    hey all...

got MOST of the compressor issues handled so i could start snadblasting... its still putting out more water and oil than i would like, but i'll just deal with it for now...

1970CJ6... if you find something, please let me know

so istarted the balsting today, and its going ok, so it seems... its gonna take a while, but doing it indoors is a huge advantage because i can sweep/strain/reuse the media which makes the cost go down.

here are some pictures of progress... i wanted to get the front 1/3 done from the shock towers to the winch mount and i got most of it... granted, i KNOW the hat channel is wasted, but i think with some good plate, i can either make a new one and cut the old one out and R/R or maybe just fiishplate... the main frame appears to be in pretty good shape
