Did you put gasket sealer on the splined shaft?

No I have not tried gasket sealer. What do you recommend? High temp RTV?

The way I do it.. Remove yoke and clean thoroughly both yoke and shaft, no oil. install yoke in shaft and put sealer (any sealer like rtv) that is resistant to oil/gas. Put it around the inside of yoke about 1/8" thick and install that big flat washer and torque the nut. Wipe out any excess sealer and you should let the sealer set up pretty good before drive.

In addition to what has been suggested, I would make sure that the output shaft endplay is in spec. Excessive endplay will allow the shaft to have side play that it could affect the effectiveness of the seal.

Also make sure the vent is "venting"!
