Hey, got a nice '72 Commando, one family vehicle, but it has a piece of Swiss cheese for a gas tank.
Is there a NOS tank out there somewhere, or should I purchase a new sending unit and just have a tank fabricated? The blessings of the season to you all.

Available here on eBay Commando Gas Tank The sending units are still available too for the same years of CJ, should be able to find one on eBay or maybe one of your local parts stores.

Pack Rat, I know that tank on ebay is for a bullnose commando, but would it somehow work for a 69? I am in desperate need of one, and that would be in the project budget.

I sent an email to the store offering it, and they didn't know.

You can make them work. You'll need the frame mount brackets from a BN since they mount to the frame differently, a new sending unit which you'd want to replace any way and, either the fill tube from a BN or you will have to rework the one from your 69. I don't know if I have a good picture showing one installed on my 71, I'll have a look see.

You can get Bullnose gas tanks at AutoZone brand new. You will need to use a little ingenuity in mouting the tank but to your 68 but it will work. The AutoZone part number is JP1A and it fits a 75 CJ-5 you will need to run a piece of angle iron between the rear frame rails behind the tank and drill a hole in it to mount the rear of the tank like the bullnose Commandos and make/modify a set of front brackets. You can have a muffler shop bend a exhaust pipe to go from the filler neck to the tank and use small pieces of the original filler neck to connect it or in a pinch radiator hose but the radiator hose will deteriorate over time faster. The new tanks come with a 2 year warranty. I was going to put one in my Jeepster Convertible until I located a NOS Jeepster tank. You will need to get the new float for the tank as well. I do not have that part number handy though.
