What modern auto, if any, will bolt up to the 225 nailhead v6 without an adapter??? (prefer auto, OD). Needed for a special rod/custom project.

No such thing as a nailhead V6. The 225 and 231 Buick V6s have the BOP (Buick-Olds-Pontiac) pattern. The nailhead is an old-old-old Buick V8 design.

You can use any GM automatic with the BOP or dual (Chevy & BOP) pattern. V6 Jeeps used the TH400, a nailhead pattern with a BOP adapter (yes, nailhead is right here). I think you can find a BOP TH350 pretty easily ... not sure about the later OD transmissions like the 700R4.

There were some 700r4's that had the dual pattern but the cases are hard to come by. May have been some with the BOP pattern but I've never seen one. Other than that you are gonna have to get an adapter.

The 2004R OD automatic from the early 80's is the more common trans used with the BOP pattern.
