I just bought a brand new(to me) 55 cj5

I just bought a 55 cj5. All stock 4 cyl 3 spd 4.25? gears body-very rusty. The engine is locked up. I put marvel mystry oil in the cylinders a week ago but have not had the time to get it in the garage and work on it. I dont know what I am going to do with it yet. First I have to get it running. Then fix the body. I was thinking of a suspension lift, or soa, possibly yj springs. Either way I am going to replace the springs they look like they are rusted together. Has anyone ever fuel injected one of these engines? I have the complete fi system off a 2.5 engine. What do you guys think?

Where is the best place to get new body sides? I have some catalogs but they have mostly newer jeeps in them.

I picked up a 57 last summer. I would post some pictures but . . . I am not sure how. Any instructions? I picked it up from a guy across town where it had been sitting for a long time. Tags were 1989. It appears to be all stock and I did get it running. I have been welding in some new steel in the floors where it was rusted out. I took the body off and have it in my shop, once it is repaired and painted, I will pull the frame in and clean it up.

How about engines? What else would bolt up to the tranny? I know other mods are needed but I am haveing a hard time getting good answers. I heard all old buick,olds,pontiac engines use the same bell housing pattern as the t90 tranny is this true, what years and engines are best. I have never driven a jeep with the stock 4 cyl and the closest place to wheel is about 70 miles up the highway. I dont want to get ran over. thanks

 

The buick 225 :v6: is a really great engine and was offerd in the cj's from '66-71. Excellent little motor for an early Jeep, I've swapped one in both my 3b and my cj6. Check out the tech library etc at the top of the page or do a search there's tons of info hear. Good luck with your project

 

If I go to the junkyard what model cars did they put the 225 in? And what years? Junkyards around here dont have any old jeeps just xj's and zj's. Thanks

 

A lot of info there, thanks. I guess there is no other way to install the 225 in my cj using the t90 without an adapter. I am going to try to get the 4 cylinder running this weekend if I have time.

 

If you need an adapter contact me. I know where several are for a very reasonable price, like 30-40 dollars plus shipping. You will still need to change the input shaft/gear to the long version though. Nickmil
