My 69 does not have a roll bar. Does anyone have pictures of a bow setup? Where is the best place to buy a complete setup.

Also what are the thoughts on installing a Roll Bar or leaving it stock.

The picture of my jeep in the Avatar shows what I put in. It is a factory roll bar from early 70"s like the Renegades or even the '69 462 package with the same era after market front section welded on. I cannot imagine not having a roll bar on these short jeeps. I will be adding padding as well. They look good and may save your life.

    Beachwoodcanvas.com has the bow kit.

Roll bar is up to you and the use you will put your Jeep to. Very good to have if you ever get upsidedown. Pad it though so your noggin doesn't bang it.

Bows will vary by the top you have on hand.

The usual Jeep parts houses will have complete soft-top kits. See the "Where to buy parts" thread if you need ideas.

Good luck finding a 462 CJ-5 let alone a sport bar from one. :D

Roll bars aren't a bad idea but a sport bar usually suffices with a steel tub the way most people drive these Jeeps. There are numerous threads on this throughout the forum in different sections. I'd suggest looking at them to get some ideas.

Avoid JCWhitney like the plague! Order from one of the partshouses in the "where to find parts" thread. JCW does nothing but have stuff shipped from somewhere else and has been known here to screw several things up.

Turner4wd, Quadratec, 4WDHardware get my vote if you need a top long before JCWhitney. It'll be the same top but the customer service will be much better.

I thought the tiger tops or besttops or what ever they are called came with the hardware. No?

Sorry, but from the above, I thought he needed "pictures of a bow setup" on a CJ without a roll bar.

And the next was asking if he needed a roll bar or not, since stock did not come with a roll bar.

I guess it's a roll bar question and not a top question.

Oh, and I'd put in a full roll cage, not just a roll bar. Not only for offroading, but in case you roll the jeep going 55mph.

I have a brand new top complete with bows in my shop. It has only been on my 69 once. I just leave the bimini top on year around now....oh the joy of Southern California.
What exactly are you trying to achieve. I can lay it out and take pictures or measurements.
    Let me know.

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking for exactly how the bows work, fold ect. I see where the main bow slides down in the hole in the sides but was unsure exactly how they fold up ect. I have a good idea of course but thought somone might have some pictures ect.

On the Roll Bar/Sport Bar issure just wondering what everyone thoughts were on leaving the unit stock or putting a semi approiate bar in for convience of a bemi top and safety. I am kind of torn between leaving it stock condition or adding modifications. It will never be a DD driver and used at the lake and in town. I will however take it off road and in the areas we go Hills Rocks and rough terrain are more prevalent.

Like I said, it's going to vary depending on the make and model of the top.

There are Tiger Tops and Supertops both sold new now, some old Kayline tops floating around and if you are lucky maybe even an old Whitco top, Beachwood Canvas and a few other smaller shops that make tops. None of them use the same bow configuration as another so you'd need to specify which top you are using or want to use like I said before. Then we can get you pictures of the setup.

I thought the original question was "My 69 does not have a roll bar. Does anyone have pictures of a bow setup? Where is the best place to buy a complete setup." It didn't specify stock Willys/Kaiser tops or after market tops. This is my 60 CJ5 with a stock Willys/Kaiser set-up.

I thought the question was "How do the bows work and where do they fold".

Without knowing which top is in question that information isn't useful.

I guess the OP wasn't clear to me. I read it to mean that a complete setup of bows were wanted for a top. Not a complete top including bows and the fabric. I must have misunderstood the question.

Being a former Bestop Employee I can say that the Tiger Top and Super Top both use the same bows. The tube or extrusions use around the doors vary from one model to another.

That's a neat looking top, not many like that around anymore.
