Brakes and remote reservoir

    I HAVE BRAKES-----FINALLY
    This is the last thing I,m going to do for awhile. I have another project jeep to start as soon as my wife gets over this one.
    Here are some photos of my last effort. Everything seemed to work "OK" during my test drive today.
    As always comments and suggestions are appreciated.

    Interesting twist on the remote set up.

    Did you just drill and tap the sides and plumb in the reservoir?

    The reservoir is from a VW. The MC was drilled and taped for 1/8" pipe thread.
    So far it seems to work fine.

    Looks good nice clean setup. I also like the drilling of the master cylinder.
    My question is the rubber hose you have on the bottom of the resevior. Is that hose made for brake fluid?
    If not you need to be aware that it will dissintegrate on the inside causing the fragments to enter the master cylinder and continue into the rest of the system.
    All in all you do nice work.

    What hose is rated for brake fluid? Auto trans coolant hose?

    May not want to use plastic plugs in the side of the master cylinder.

    yeh, change out those plastic plugs with brass and t- tape but be careful not to get the tape into the system , the hose will swell when you stomp on the brakes and give you a spongey feel,personally I would not trust 1 hose clamp .there's alot of pressure behind that pedal .you might change to barbed ends and 2 clamps .?great idea though.

    Um, the plastic plugs are only temporary until the brake lines get installed. The steel lines in the picture only supply brake fluid from the remote reservoir, there's no pressure on them.

    What I uses for reservioir hose is
    Gates ADAPTA FLEX brand hose. It is used in race car applications. Wilwood Disc brakes use it in there remote reservioir kits.
    It is a common hose. I purchase it at my local Hydraulic hose supplier.
    Talk with your local supplier. I'm sure there are others that are also acceptable.

    The hose is supposed to be auto trans hose. I couldn't find anything made specifically for brake fluid. I'll look for some ADAPTA FLEX hose as soon as I recover from todays too good Thanksgiving dinner.
