You should have a 10 ga. wire (at least) running from the BAT term on alt to the POS term on battery unless you are running an ammeter. The Bat term on alt will be the biggest term on the back and usually has a red insulator ring around it. If you are running an ammeter (ampmeter) your wire from alt Bat term will go directly to one side of ammeter and other side of ammeter to the load center.

Crap, found a wire we didnt connect under the hood...and not quite sure where it goes now....I have two wires, one sitting above the other, that activate the brake lights when the brake pedal is applied, but, I only have one of the wires, the bottom one, connected, and I have it connected to the "brake switch" wire. What is the second wire and where am I supposed to connect it at???

The other wire connects to the turn signal switch. On my switch it's the brown wire.

cool, thank you! So then the "brake switch" wire that is at the dash would connect to the light switch for power, correct?

    Malachai,
Power for the brake lights start at the fuse block through the "STOP" fuse then goes through the firewall to the brake switch on an orange wire, "brake switch power", and connects to either of the two posts. With the brake applied, power goes through the brake switch to the other post and on a white wire, "brake switch", back through the firewall to one of the seven wires going to the turn signal switch - on my switch it's the brown wire.
You'll get there - don't give up now!

Assuming you are not using a fuse block, You are correct. The power to the brake switch will come off the light switch circuit breaker. Connection should be made on the terminal that connects the breaker to the light switch so the breaker will act like a fuse in case of a short circuit in stop wiring. HTH

Umm, what if I am using a fuse block? The only brake switch power wire I have is one going to the dash....do I need to move it through the firewall?

    Yep!
Either wiring scheme will work. The brake light switch is on the front of the master cylinder - right?

Ok, I got just about everything I can hook up connected, but I have one more wire I am not sure about, and that is "headlight power". I cannot find anything remotely close to this on the wiring schematic, which is not surprising since this is a new wiring harness. I have dimmer power going to the dimmer switch and the light switch in the dash, but, should I also run the headlight power to the same spot as the dimmer power?

The "headlight power " wire starts at the fuse block as a 30amp circuit. It connects to the post on the headlight switch closest to the firewall, usually the line side of a 30amp circuit breaker. The headlight power wire will not connect to the same post as the dimmer power wire.

There was a link to "a basic guide to Willys headlight switches", but it's not available anymore. Someone may have saved the info somewhere. I have a printout of it that I can scan in if necessary. It really helped me to determine what wires go where on the switch.

Alright, minus the directionals which will be here tomorrow, everything else is wired, and we ran a "smoke test". Picked up any wire that was bare and made sure it wasnt touching anything else, connected up the battery. Everything thus far seems to work, minus one or two minor things, but, I was just wondering, are the parking lights supposed to go out when the headlights come on?

    Yes - mine does.

Congratulations on the smoke test - kinda scary the first time.
BTY - I finished my wiring last week and heard a little "pop" when I touched cable to battery. Turned out that the dome light was grounded to the case  - change two wires and was good to go.
Now working on installing Sony CD Stereo.

Congrats! Soon as this is done and over with, that will be my next step also...just gotta figure out how I am going to mount it as the current mount location in dash has no support in there for holding the stereo steady... :D
