Hi everyone, with winter well on it's way I'm adding some effort to get my defroster working somewhat. I recently got a new defroster duct. My question is what does the defroster hose look like. There is just one hole in the bottom of the duct, but two on the box where the air blows out (where the cable hooks up). I'd be very grateful if someone could post a picture, or tell me how I could make one. Thanks!

Picture would be nice. But, I just went to the hardware store and got a rubber plug about the same diameter with a hose clamp, and closed one of the two holes.

So both holes don't supply air to the defroster duct? That seems odd to me that they would make 2 holes and only use one. Does the fan push enough air through the hose to reach the windshield. Also where can i get some hose that would work for a defroster hose?

IIRC the original cardboard ducts had 2 hoses to them. the plastic replacement only has one. you can get defrost duct hose at any autoparts store. yes you can get enough air through the hose to defrost the windshield but you need to go through and make sure your heater box and housing are sealed up good.

Tell you what...this is a mystery to many people. I have heard (about third hand info) that Jeep was considering using two ducts, but changed plans and left one of them open.
They may have kind of addressed this later on. I can tell you that in an absolutly stock 76 CJ, there is one tube going to that cardboard duct and the other tube was just left wide open. A lid from a can of spray paint and a hose clamp will plug the extra hole like it was made for it...and that helps "some" but not nearly as much as you think it should.

Thank ya'll so much for the help. I'm still having problems finding a hose that will work . I checked the local auto parts store but they didn't have anything. Any suggestions on other places where I might find something that would work?

That should be the picture next to the dictionary entry for either "functional aesthetic" or "overkill", possibly both. Very nice.

Well I went out today and capped up the exra defroster hole, and put the hose on, and there was little improvement ( you still couldn't feel any air whatsoever blowing out of the ducts. I figured out that the door in the plenium box isn't sealing like it should When you pull the cable for defroster, there is still a substantial amount of air blowing through the floor ducts. Is there supposed to be a rubber seal on the door in the plenium box, cause mine looks like just a flat piece of metal?

Well, that's not good, cause I don't have one. Looks like the door plate thing has one of its corners chipped off.

I went to my flaps and bought a 1ft. piece of flexible tailpipe. It was 2 inch or something, I don't remeber exactly...but it fit perfect. I bought a new plastic duct for under the windshield from ebay. For a while I was leaving that second hole open. It was my floor heat. I thought that was its intended use. When I bought my Mojave heater, I capped the second hole off with a pb blaster top and two self tappers. Actually I think it was a great stuff foam insulation top. Whatever it was its yellow and fit perfect. I have a switch for my cab heater and a switch for my dedicated defroster.

I can't ever feel anything coming from my winshield vents, but when the jeep is warmed up, the defroster somehow works great. I don't know how!
