I have a 69 CJ5 with a four inch Skyjacker lift. Do you guys think I can get 35's on it by staying spring under? I have 33's now but would like a bit more ground clearance.

IIRC the rear wheel opening diameter is about 34", so you'll need to cut or else lift enough so the tire never reaches the opening. I'd expect the leading edge of the fender would be a problem too.

I have a 4" lift with about a 1.5" body lift. Timgr is right they do not fit very well on the rear. The front fits ok but they do contact the frame on full turn. I will try to post a pic from computer at home tonight.

well, I am looking for scout axles now with disc brakes up front with the intention of going a bit wider, so hopefully that will help with the rubbing on the springs and the brake issue. I already battle that now. My jeep just doesn't look right to me with the 33's anymore. I'll try to post a pic later.

With the 35's you're only theoretically going to add an 1" of tire all the way around. Unless your 33's now are pretty worn. Take a tape measure out with you and you should be able to get a pretty good feel for how big the 35's are going to be on your Jeep. Do you have a buddy with some 35's you could bolt up? Some rims with a different backspacing might help with the tires rubbing the springs and frame. Most manufactures websites will list actual height of their tires so if you know which 35's you are after, that could help too.

To me, your JEEP looks great! How long have the springs been installed? There will be some settling as they wear in... One suggestion is to jack the rear one side at a time to stuff the tires and see what type of clearance you will have. One thing I did notice is the rear shackle appears to be angled forward, could just be the pic though. Nice looking CJ!

I have a 4" lift and a 2" body lift and I still had to cut the rear fenders to clear 35 x 13.50's. I had to move the rear shackle hangers forward slightly to keep my shackles from flipping forward. It appears that yours are angled forward too. Not good. I think you find you have to move them as well. That will also lower the rear slightly when you move them. Looks fine to me by the way. Scout axles are about 5" wider than the CJ axles. With the tires that far outside the body I'm guessing you'll be trimming a lot off the rear fenders to clear 35's.

Yep, you definitely need to fix the angle on those rear shackles. At the very least it'll ride really rough....
    Good looking Jeep!

it does ride rough in the back. Been like that since I bought it a few years ago. I always wondered if they were not angled right. The bottom of the shackle should be angled back more right? Any other ways to
fix it other than cutting the shackle mount off the frame and welding it forward a bit?

Yep, you can cut the spring hanger off and move it back instead. But, that moves the axle back as well. If you drop a plumb line down from the top shackle bolt, the bottom bolt should be about an inch behind that line. There is no easy fix, but the difference in ride is worth it. If you take the Jeep offroad at all, you'll find the shackle will flip forward and get stuck there and they don't just flip right back.

I guess I will have to address that when I get my Waggy axles and have to outboard the springs. It seems I will have trouble with the 35's I want someday!!!
