I’m replacing front wheel cylinders on my 66 Dauntless (10”drums). The replacement cylinders are different from the ones that are originally installed. On my original left cylinder the brake line exists towards the rear. The right cylinder has the line exiting towards the front.
The replacement wheel cylinders are just the opposite where the brake line exits (towards front/rear).

Other than having to make up new S lines, is there something wrong here?

I don’t think these brakes have ever been apart before.

Try swapping them side to side?

They are identical. Swapping gives the same layout. I'm guessing everyone on this board has tossed the drums and swapped discs so we may never know which direction the original lines face.

I'm guessing your old cylinders were 1" diameter
are your new cylinders 1" diameter as well ?
there were 2 different 1" wheel cylinders used depending on the serial number break...
maybe the position of the line opening is the only difference.
do you have the single outlet master cylinder or a dual outlet ? that could be the difference as well.

sounds like someone got 2 lefts (or rights). they will interchange, but the lines need to be modded to do so.
