Question on the backlighting, was it a few little light bulbs that provided the backlighting for these? I fear I am going to have to replace my speedo also, but, if I can figure out where these three little light bulbs that are hanging from under my dash go, I may not have to. I am not sure what the PO did to this jeep, aside from rebuild the engine, but the wiring for him is in sad shape, which is why I ended up buying the mini12 from ezwiring to replace existing, should be an interesting week.

    Re: gauges

The wiring and switches on my 62 CJ were really buggered up when I recently picked it up. Spagetti mess from years of previous owners adding and removing things here and there.

I just cut out all the wiring all together and bought a few spools of wire from Napa and rewired the whole thing right down to the headlight sockets. Even found some round taillight assemblies at Autozone that look great on the back of it that were only $6 a piece! Found a spade style fuse terminal block and everything. New headlight, ignition, and some toggles for other things. Into it about $130 for the whole kit and caboodle. A full weekend and it's all working now. For me, it's so much easier to rip it all out and start over fresh than to try to trouble shoot 40-50 year old wiring. The extra epense is worth the agrivation that I avoid.

One quick question though, does anyone know where to get the bulb holders that go in the speedometer? I had to rig something for my missing bulbs, would like to have the correct 'pop in' holders if I could.

I had some inop mechanical gauges in my Jeep when I bought it. They had the same socket as OE so I used those where they were missing. I think they sell those sockets at AZ , O'reilly and NAPA if you have one to take in. I will look next time I go.

Well, to be honest, the bulbs look to be intact, I checked them out and the filaments all look good, they are just hanging and dont have power. I will be starting my rewire of the whole system on Tuesday, so maybe will find out that they do work, just are not connected.

I had the same thing one of the bulbs that was hanging was for the brights and the other was the generator
the bulb at the top of the gauge was the light and was burnt out. The bulbs i was able to get at auto zone.
