Okay guys. I sourced a Rochester 2gv from the local carb shop here in town. Model number 7041181. After calling around and some research it appears this carb is from a 71 Chevy Vega 4 cylinder. Cut to the chase.
Installed the carb this afternoon Jeep seems to run great . Set timing again and dwell, set air mixture. My question is this. The holley I took off seemed to run on constant vacuum meaning the port it was hooked up to had constant vacuum. The Rochester has a fitting for the vacuum advance but it seems to be Ported , meaning it has almost no vacuum at idle but increases with rpm. Is this right? does the 225 vacuum advance run on ported vacuum?

I will have to do some fab work here to hook up the manual choke and throttle linkage but this carb seems to fit the bill just fine.

    Thanks in advance
    Tim

    Re: Vacum Advance

Yes, the vacuum advance is ported.. Should be a fitting on the right (passenger side) front of the carb.

Vega used a Holley 5210 carburetor on their GTs The stock Vega used a one-barrel carburetor. I don't think a 4 cylinder carburetor will work on a V-6.

I did speak with Holley about this carb. Their reman number was 7180. They informed me it was no longer offered from Holley but was in fact for a 71 Vega...hmmm. They seemed to think it would work fine and mentioned most 2g's for smaller motors were around the same cfm rating of 280. Anyway the carb is on and running well, at least sitting in the driveway (waiting on springs)

Why not? I had a 71 Silverline boat with a 90 horse I/O inline 4 that had a 2G on it from the factory....

Well let me tell you. I bought a Holley 390 for my :v6: year ago. It idled great. When you floored the gas it would run out of fuel. the only way it would work was to pull out the choke. I later found they sold my one for a 4 cylinder. Installed the V-6 carb, ran great from then on.

I guess we'll find out in a week or so when I get the springs. To this point the axels are rebuilt painted etc etc. The gas tank has been cleaned out, painted, new sender, fuel lines, filter. Drivelines rebuilt, new u joints and slip seals. Still have to re work the choke and throttle linkage, still looking for wheels but we are getting there:)

    Thanks for all the help.
