I have a 73 CJ 5 and am trying to local heater control cables that match those from the factory. The current ones have a rubber handle with a brushed aluminum dot in the middle. In addition, there is a chrome colored ring around the rubber pull. Any suggestion on where to look?

I ordered one unit but it does not match. I just need the "air" control. Please advise.

Unfortunately, those are the later model controls.
The intermediate controls are under the dash and are a different length.
They are almost impossible to find.

None of those match. I talked to Russel at Vintage Jeeps and he is sold out, but they way he described his, they don't match. I bought one pull from Georges Jeep Parts, but the pull doesn't match.

If a new one is not available, can anyone recommend a good Jeep junkyard?

Where are you located? It would be good to put your state and town in your signature.

Do you have the old parts? I'd suggest you try and repair them if you can. You also may be able to modify the later type so they will work.

    I'm in Austin, Texas.

I'll try the repair idea if it comes to that.

Tim, yopu seem to be the guru of knowledge about the 72 to 75's. Do you recall what the heater control knobs looked like in that era?

    Thank you sir.

Sure, I have some on my CJ-6. They aren't perfect, but they are there. Hre's a picture:

Is this good enough? If not, I'll have to take a closeup.

BTW this is right for '73-75. '72 is different.

Can you just swap out the knobs onto the new cables? I don't know what holds them on, but you might be able to epoxy them in place. That style of knob was ubiquitous on Jeeps of that era, used on fullsize Jeeps too. Probably also on AMC cars, although I don't know that firsthand.

Mine are all sticking out of the control panel or missing.
I haven't even tried to tackle them because I know its next to impossible to get replacements.
    But my time is coming.
I have a feeling I'm going to end up setting the heater controls in one position and just turning the fan on or off. - Rigged.

I just bought the ones for the newer jeeps, and modified my control panel. I also had to slide it over to the passenger side of the car a little bit. I didn't even have to cut the cables shorter. They're not perfect, but I think they look pretty good and they do the job.

I bought a set of three from Vintage. They are not exact, but work perfect and appear close enough that its almost un noticable

I bought 3 manual choke cables. Look decent and work fine and only cost me $5 each

    Ha, thats great!

Thats great to know, because the newer sets are a little shorter.
Thanks Max. I may do that if I can't find the old ones (highly likely)
