Overhauled the bellcrank a while ago, used the Crown kit. I still have side to side play on the shaft. I used the shaft that came with the kit and also tried the original and when it's all snugged up, I can still see the bellcrank cant sideways:mad::mad:. Anyone run into this before? The Ross column is tight, tie rods are new, am going to swap to the Jeepster one piece tie rod setup. Would really like to tighten the bellcrank up. Saginaw swap is not an option, don't even bring it up. monkeysmonkeys

Do the bearings fit snugly into the bellcrank? How do the bearings ride on the shaft? Did you replace the bellcrank or just the "wear items"?

When I re-did the Ross setup on my flattie (pre-saginaw swap) I changed everything out wiht Crown and Omix-ADA parts and the bellcrank assembly worked like a dream. The components I bought to re-do the Ross box however were crap, and had little or no hardening to them at all. After my Ross setup bought the farm at Tellico I capitulated and converted to the Saginaw setup and never looked back. YMMV. ;)

Original bellcrank, new bearings and shaft. Thought maybe replacement shaft was machined wrong so I substituted original shaft. No difference so I now suspect bearings. Prefer BCA,Timken to the offshore stuff, was hoping someone had a number I can cross. My Ross box has 7000 original miles on it, should be good for a while yet.

Try Pete DeBella. www.debellajeepparts.com. He has a stash of Jeep parts that it truly incredible -- including all kinds of NOS items (in the original Jeep parts box and all). I've seen it myself. He sold me a bellcrank rebuilding kit -- not OMIX -- much better. Make sure you measure the diameter of the bellcrank bolt.

Just a suggestion but maby go with the older style bushing instead of the bearings. The bearings were shot on my 67 and i had my old bellcrank from my 46 with the bushing and used that and its tight as a dolphins a** now :)

You can ask any bearing shop to match up your bearing to the full compliment style bearing it has rollers packed tight together all the way around,it helped mine last untill i put herms steering kit in.

I took my shaft and bell crank to one of the local bearing stores such as Motion Industries. They measured the bell crank bore and shaft dia. and ordered the bearing and seals accordingly.
