My wife just doesn't understand why I'm so happy. "That's nice, dear." So I turn to you guys.

Replaced my fuel tank yesterday with a new (steel) one. I figured the old one had enough crud in it to plant a tree after 34 years. Now I have a new sending unit and replaced all rubber line from tank to carb. The PO did not have the old sending unit grounded and had the return pipe on the old sending unit uncapped, so everytime I filled up, gas leaked out. I capped the return line on the new sending unit, grounded the new sending unit to the frame, ran a new wire from the sending unit to the gas gauge, installed a new temperature sending unit and ran a new wire from the temperature sending unit to the temperature gauge. Wonder of wonders, my temperature gauge and fuel gauge now function!

I did almost the exact same thing this summer, new steel tank and sending unit, new rubber gas and vacuum lines.

The old brass float was ripped in half and the strainer was so completely clogged it was hard to tell it was a strainer. The fuel filter was getting clogged with junk and as I removed the tank, it started leaking from the bottom where the foam pad was.

My 74 sat in a barn for most of the last 34 years. The fuel gauge was the last thing that didn't work, now all is good.

I replaced the fuel tank, sending unit, and all the rubber bits from the filler neck to the rubber fuel lines to the carb, PLUS half of the steel lines on my 79...

Yes, it's a good feeling knowing that no gas is leaking onto the exhaust pipe.

Now I gotta do the same thing for my commando.:v6:
