Just wondering if a regular MSD 6A box would work with the stock Delco distributor on my 225, or if there is a separate part number for the oddfire? Guy that is selling it has a chevy truck, so definetly not oddfire.. I know that you can use the MSD with the HEI or a regular distributor, but if I got the MSD, would there be any reason to upgrade to an HEI? Thanks guys!

No. There's a separate PN for the Odd Fire. It's here in the forum somewhere.

If you can't find it I'll lift the hood when I get home tonight. :D

I do not have a odd fire but I was on MSD web site this morning, in there tech section I remember seeing some thing about the odd fire, not sure what it is but it might help.

I put the 6A on my f134 and it made a big difference

The 6A will work OK on just about any engine that is not an odd-fire, but it's way overkill IMHO. Look around on CL and eBay for a used 5A, they work just fine up to about 5-6k RPMs and they're lots cheaper!

<edit> One on ebay now at ~ 26 bux...

So the 5A that is $26 will work for an oddfire?

Long as it's for an Odd-Fire engine.

Like I said, the PNs for the Odd-Fire MSDs are here in the forum. There's more than one. I have one, MOP (a board member that works with me) has another.

It MUST be for an odd-fire engine for it to work. I'm not sure there's a 5 series for the Odd Fire.

    This might help too: https://www.msdignition.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3249

    And this: https://www.turbo-link.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12250

Basically you gotta find a P/N#6246 for it to work. There are others...

    Unfortunately, no.

According to posts on the MSD forums the difference between an even-fire MSD and an odd-fire MSD is the duration of the spark; an even-fire unit has a 20* spark duration whereas an odd-fire can only use 10* of duration. Also according to MSD you can use an odd-fire unit on an even-fire engine, but not vice-versa.

    Sorry for the confusion.
