Anyone know a source for new battery trays for a 1974 CJ5? I can find plenty of sources for 1976-on. Or, will the 1976-on trays work for earlier models?

Same thing on eBay. All the battery trays on there are for 1976 and later.

Re the '76-on battery tray, to me it looks like it would work in place of the earlier tray. The main difference I see is that the hold-down bracket goes the length of the battery in the originals, and goes across the width in the replacements. The attachment points to the body may be slightly different. I expect you can make the replacement tray work, but it won't be exactly the same.

I bet you're right. Mine is beyond saving with POR-15, so I may try one of the '76-on trays.

I used a 76 and after on my 75. I think I had to drill an extra hole or two. Wasn't bad to install.

I don't think it would be hard to make a new one. Check with a local fab shop to see what a custom one would cost. Doesn't even have to be a 4x4 place, any metal shop could do it.
