Hi new to forum, just picked up '63 cj5 with transplanted 225 v6 and power steering amongst other goodies. Main problem is that I'm 6'5" and am having a hard time fitting in the drivers seat!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Thanks for the advice but I was kind of thinking about raising and moving the seat back, didn't know if a different seat riser would work or not? Expecting this project to take all winter. Cleveland winters can be long so plenty of time for the project.

For what it's worth, I was determined to figure out a way to create leg room without cutting the wheelhouse notch. After several days of wasted time, and one severely hacked new bucket seat, I surrendered and got out the cutting wheel. Within an hour I finished a temporary patch, bolted in the seat and enjoyed a very comfortable ride.

How much difference is there in legroom for a 63 and a 74?
I am 6'4", and I fit fine in the 74, but have a bit of trouble getting out R)

Well, you might be able to raise the seat but you lose room beneath the steering wheel and you can't move it back anyway. It's already on the wheelwell hence the need for a notch to move it back.

2 different people that are the same height will not sit in the Jeep the same way since the body proportions are what affect the way they fit. Someone with longer legs will have more difficulty than someone with shorter legs. Shorter legs mean a longer body trunk so that person will sit higher.

Depending on the person's body type rasing the seat 2" might be enough to alleviate the problem. If they have a smaller steering wheel it might work. A tilt steering column may also help.

Smaller steering wheel would be difficult at best to steer the stock Ross steering. With Saginaw it's possible. My steering wheel is a 13" Grant. GM column too, not tilt though.

I'm 6'3" and put 1"+ spacers and longer bolts on my seat which tilted it back to the wheelhouse and gave a little more leg room. Also, imagine a thinner seat like the military Jeeps. That would give you a couple more inches. My '65 has three positions for the driver's seat. Yours is all the way back, right?

I'm 6'4" and sitting in a '74 Cj-6. It's not pretty nor comfortable. I need different seats for sure.

Sorry for the confusion, I should explain Franky (aka: Frankenstien). The cj5 (Franky) is titled a '63 it has a fiberglass tub, a windshield frame from a'70ish cj, a crate dauntless v6 '70's vintage, power steering out of ?,a t90 out of ?, d18 twin stick stock, d25 or d27 front d44 rear 5.88 gears, and a western 6' plow run by belt driven pump. Did i leave anything out o'yes no radiator fan?!!! (need to put an electric one on newer radiator. So keeping it original is not all that pressing just making it roadworthy is. The engine only has 19,691 miles on it, plenty of life left in it. I really do apprietiate all the help.
