    Hello All,

Wife and I are rebuilding a 1974 CJ6 and we found the Jeep Owner's bible on sale at JC Whitney. Any opinion on whether this would be a major resource for us in our project?

    Thanks, Ed

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I have several books on jeeps. None of them have everything. But each one has something the others don't. Best I've found for overall is the Field Service Manual for jeeps. Especially if you are going back to stock. You can find them on Ebay farily cheap at times. I picked up one for 14 bucks, shipping included.

Did you buy the factory service manual (ie NOT Chilton's or Haynes)l?

Check around on prices before ordering anything from JCW.

JCWhitney isn't a great supplier, and shouldn't be at the center of your Jeep-parts universe.

JEEP BIBLE is a good book for quick reference but only covers the basics. I would recommend the factory service manual as timgr mentioned if you're doing a full restoration.

Don't know if you were asking me or not but mine is a Service Manual for universal "Jeep" vehicles, 1965 Kaiser Keep Corporation. Orgional Reproductions, etc. so I believe it is a reproduction of the factory manual.

Oh and second the Haynes and Chilton's manuals. They do suck.

    Hi,
We are taking all of your suggestions very seriously. With respect to the factory service manual, would the manual described in this link be the factory service manual many of you are referring to?

    Thank you.

Thats where I ordered the manual for my jeep. Its year specific and has way more info than any other manual I've found....hated parting with the dough but it is worth it. wiring diagram alone is worth it.

The Mopar one by M oses Ludel:

or the Willie Worthy/ Granville King One:

I have both, and as far a cj's are concerned there's better info in the second Worthy/Granville one. But in reality they are both good to have.

I think both of the Ludel books are a waste of money. The second one is really worthless as most of the teardowns don't even apply to the vehicle years the book covers. I get more out of my Haynes manuals.

I have to agree about the Restoration Guide from Moses Ludel. The first thing he says is that he avoids doing a frame-off restoration if he can. Second, most of the things in the restoration guide are upgrades or modifications. For a pure restoration, it is less than helpful. Factory servie manuals can be had at a decent price. Those coupled with the specific information you get here will go a long way.

One of the reference books you will find very helpful would be the 1974-75 parts book with illustrations.
Knowing the part number is helpful, since most auto parts stores have a cross-reference.
